Making a Move: Special Flight from Jordan Reaches Frankfurt

Plane from Jordan successfully touches down in Frankfurt - Aircraft departing from Jordan arrives at Frankfurt airport

In a bid to bring back stranded citizens, a special flight touched down in Frankfurt, Germeny, from the Jordanian capital, Amman. The flight, scheduled in the evening, carried 171 passengers who were announced to be leaving the volatile region by the Foreign Office earlier.

Another special flight is scheduled for Thursday, but it seems to be already fully booked. The Foreign Office has hinted at arranging more flights, as needed, due to the insufficient flight options from airlines. European nations like Poland have organized convoys to cross borders into Jordan for their citizens. The Foreign Office urges all Germans to register on its crisis preparedness list, Elefand.

The Foreign Office spokesperson has emphasized that this isn't an evacuation but commercial special flights. They stated, "These are just 'commercial special flights' due to insufficient options from the airlines. They will continue 'as long as the situation allows and there's a need.'"

The tensions and instability in the region remain high due to ongoing Israeli military operations in Iran and Iranian shelling on Israel. This has caused the airspace over these two countries to remain closed, consequently, no safe departure has been possible.

Germans must make their way to Jordan independently

The German Foreign Office has decided against organizing trips from Israel to the Jordanian airport and acknowledges that self-arranged travel could carry additional risks. The first recommendation for those affected on the ground is to adhere to the safety guidelines provided by Israeli authorities. The spokesperson emphasized, "They frequently advise against land travel and gathering in crowds given the current circumstances."

Close to 4,000 Germans have registered on the German crisis preparedness list, Elefand, stating that they are currently in Israel. In Iran, the number hovers around 1,000 registrations. The Foreign Office advises Germans in Iran to travel overland to neighboring countries, Armenia, and Turkey, as border crossings there are open. In unique cases, it is also possible to leave via Azerbaijan's border. Once in any of these countries, commercial flights can be taken to Germany. "Germans should grab these opportunities to continue their journey to Germany," it was stated. "Our Tehran embassy supports the exit, if possible, by establishing direct contact with the Iranian authorities."
