Airfare Purchase: Spent 250 Euros on Air France Business Class Enhancement - Meal Selection Remarkably Impressive
Candidate (Unpolished Version for Better Understanding):
Celebrating an Anniversary with Air France's Business Class
Hey there, so me and the old man took a romantic jaunt to Paris to mark our anniversary, and we decided to splurge on business class with Air France. It cost us an extra 275 bucks each, replaced the economy seat tickets. Here's the lowdown on our fancy flight experience.
Simplified Check-in, but Sky Priority Didn't Impress
With our business class seats, we qualified for Sky Priority service, which is supposed to speed things up during check-in, baggage drop-off, security, and boarding. Both in Dublin and Paris airports, we could zip through dedicated check-in and baggage drop-off lines without problems. The perks of being in business class also included an increased baggage allowance of two checked bags, each weighing up to 70 pounds (around 32 kilograms).
However, our encounters with Sky Priority varied from place to place. At Charles de Gaulle in Paris, we had to stand in a considerable queue for security and immigration despite our status. In Dublin, though, Sky Priority helped whittle down our waiting time significantly.
Our bag was tagged with a priority sticker to be among the first to arrive in Paris. But in Dublin, we sadly had to wait for it on the carousel amidst countless other checked bags.
Parisian Lounges Need Some TLC, but Dublin's Wasalright
Since we branded ourselves as business-class flyers on both flights, we gained access to the airport lounges in Dublin and Paris. The lounges in Dublin were comfortable, roomy, and quietly buzzing with activity. There were gratis light snacks, drinks, and even a decent selection of vino and champers available for your enjoyment.
Regrettably, the Air France lounge in Paris was going through renovations during our trip, so we were redirected to a temporary lounge that was dimly lit and sparsely furnished.
Munchies Aplenty in the Temporary Lounge
Despite the lackluster appearance of the temporary lounge in Paris, we were offered a gastronomical feast! There was an abundant assortment of hors d'oeuvres, including salads, pastas, meats, cheeses, sweets, and cakes, all served gratis. If you fancied a drink, coffee, soft drinks, or booze were ready and waiting for you.
Stressful Boarding may have been preventable
We didn't want to show up at the gate too early, as we figured the priority boarding would take care of that for us. Unfortunately, we missed hearing any flight announcements in either lounge, which is common practice to keep the peace in airport lounges.
In Paris, for example, we found ourselves stuck in a lengthy queue with everyone else when we showed up at the gate at boarding time. We probably could have dodged this by getting there a bit earlier, but I didn't relish missing out on more lounge time. All in all, it wasn't as posh as we hoped.
Sink into the Luxurious Seats
Despite traveling on different types of aircraft, both had their cozy business class seating areas, separated from the main cabin by a nifty little curtain. Since it was a short-haul flight, we didn't have swanky lie-flat seats that morph into beds. However, we did enjoy comfortable leather seats with adjustable armrests, and plenty of legroom.
The pièce de résistance of upgrading to business class was the guaranteed empty middle seat between us, giving us ample space to stretch out and share the row without being squeezed up against a stranger.
The Food will make you want to book on Air France Again
We thoroughly enjoyed our nosh during both flights. In the morning, we gorged on puff pastry with smoked salmon, yogurt, croissants with jam, coffee, and juice on our way from Dublin to Paris. For lunch on the return journey, we savored smoked salmon and couscous with bread and cheese, and concluded our meal with a creamy éclair.
Our meals were served on actual cloth napkins with cutlery, which was a nice touch. A smorgasbord of drinks, including champagne, accompanied each meal, elevating the entire dining experience for us.
A Bit More enhancement Needed, but We'd Fly with Air France Again
Overall, my time in Air France's business class was mostly positive, but some areas could improve. The high-quality elements of our upgrade were evident in the yummy meals and attentive cabin service. The empty seat between us on each flight made it a lot comfier for us both, and the generous baggage allowance let me stuff my suitcase (and buy souvenirs) without hesitation.
I'm not one to turn down champagne, but if I'm paying a premium, it's more for comfort than luxury. I'd prefer my cash elsewhere if that's what I'm shelling out for. I lament the inefficiency of the check-in, security, and baggage collection processes, but maybe we just had a bad run on this trip. I've usually found these processes to run more smoothly with Finnair, Scandinavian Airlines, and Aer Lingus on my European adventures.
Additionally, access to lounges is a crucial part of the business class experience, and the one in Paris was a bit of a downer. But I'm optimistic for the future, as it's no longer under construction, and the snapshots of the improved facilities look fantastic. So yeah, I'd fly with Air France again, and maybe even splurge on business class if the cost is right.

- The business class experience with Air France, complete with a stress-free check-in, priority baggage handling, and a number of sky lounges offering delightful food and beverages, became an integral part of our luxurious travel lifestyle.
- While our journey with Air France's business class presented some aspects for improvement, such as the inconsistent efficiency of Sky Priority and the renovation state of the Parisian lounge, the unparalleled comfort of the leather seats, the ample room provided by the empty middle seat, and the exquisite meals served made us consider air travel with them again in the future.
