Baden-Württemberg Bolsters Ties with Switzerland in Economy, Science, and Tech
Baden-Württemberg is bolstering ties with Switzerland, particularly in economy, science, and technology. The state cabinet has approved an updated strategy to strengthen cross-border cooperation, with a focus on key technologies like Artificial Intelligence and sustainable mobility.
The updated Switzerland Strategy, approved on July 8, 2025, aims to further expand economic, labor, and living spaces with Switzerland. State Secretary Florian Haßler underscored Baden-Württemberg's bridge function between Switzerland and the EU, emphasizing the importance of Switzerland's participation in Horizon Europe.
Minister President Winfried Kretschmann highlighted the significance of the partnership, citing shared Alemannic culture and European values. The focus areas include deepening economic, scientific, and technological cooperation, expanding sustainable mobility, collaboration in the hydrogen area, and strengthening democratic partnerships.
A key project is the full electrification of the High Rhine Railway by 2027, contributing to sustainable mobility in the border region. Additionally, a network of institutions, including the University of Freiburg and the University of Hohenheim, is promoting hydrogen economy development and climate protection projects.
The updated Baden-Württemberg Switzerland Strategy, approved by the cabinet, sets a political framework for further development of cross-border cooperation.
