Berlin Brandenburg Airport Operational Despite Cyberattack
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is currently operating despite a cyberattack on its systems two weeks ago. Although some services are disrupted, the airport is managing to handle a high volume of travelers due to the holiday season. The attack disabled electronic systems used for passenger and baggage handling, causing longer wait times. However, almost all flights are taking off. The airport expects around 90,000 travelers on Friday and nearly 96,000 on Sunday night football, much higher than usual. Passengers can now use self-service stations and automated baggage drop-off points. The company behind the affected systems, Collins Aerospace, aims to restore the central system by Sunday. Airlines will be gradually reconnected in the following days after some tests. While travelers may still experience delays in check-in, boarding, and baggage claim, the airport is running smoothly overall. BER recommends passengers check with their airline for details before their trip. The goal is to have all systems fully functional by Sunday.
