Celebration of National Literature Day in 2026, Dessau-Rosslau Edition
Dessau-Roßlau, Germany, is set to host the 35th State Literature Days from May 7 to 23, 2026. This significant cultural event, themed "city found!", promises a diverse programme that aims to strengthen literary discourse and cultural identity.
State Minister and Minister of Culture, Rainer Robra, expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, stating that it will be a significant addition to Dessau-Roßlau's cultural programme. The Cultural Office of the City of Dessau-Roßlau and the city library are organising the event, with the support of a grant received by Dr. Robert Reck, the Mayor of Dessau-Roßlau.
The programme for the 35th State Literature Days will feature a variety of events, including readings in libraries, kindergartens, schools, and senior facilities, book presentations and discussions, "Long Nights" dedicated to genres such as crime or poetry, matinees, and soirees at unusual locations. The events will not be limited to the city library or cultural institutions within Dessau-Roßlau, but will extend to various locations, including schools, senior facilities, and even unique venues.
Authors from Saxony-Anhalt and prominent guests will be participating in the event. The jury, consisting of writers and city representatives, will decide on participation by the end of September. As of now, the authors selected by the jury for participation have not been publicly announced. However, it is known that more than 80 authors have applied for the event.
The programme may also include discussions on urban future visions and forms of cultural memory, as well as connections to the Bauhaus anniversary and the perspective of the Federal Garden Show 2035. The organisers are working closely with the city library, all municipal cultural institutions, and many external partners to ensure a successful event.
The 35th State Literature Days' programme will be available in December, providing a detailed insight into the events and participants of this exciting cultural event. The city is eagerly anticipating the diverse programme that will undoubtedly strengthen literary discourse and contribute to the cultural identity of Dessau-Roßlau.
