Continuous Hot Water in Motorhomes: Truma's Innovative CombiNeo Heater
One of the most significant advantages of top-tier motorhomes over more fundamental camping options is their hot water supply system. However, the inconvenience of waiting for the boiler to heat water, even when connected to the main water supply, can disrupt routine chores like washing-up or family showers.
Blown-air heating company Truma has introduced a new solution to this issue with their CombiNeo heater. This innovative product provides continuous hot water as long as there is water in the tank or a main water connection. Motorhome enthusiasts in the UK, purchasing a new Auto-Sleeper motorhome this season, could be amongst the first to experience this game-changing technology.
While traditional instantaneous hot-water systems that offer immediate hot water upon activation are available in some regions, Truma's CombiNeo provides continuous hot water within three minutes of start-up, reaching temperatures suitable for washing-up, and eight minutes for a hot shower. After the initial heating period, the system ensures an uninterrupted supply of hot water.
This continuous hot water is achieved through an auxiliary water circuit within the boiler, which kicks into action when water is used, maintaining the system temperature. The heater operates on gas, delivering either 4.4kW or 6kW, electric (up to 3kW), or a hybrid option with a potential output of up to 7kW. A diesel heater is scheduled to launch in 2026.
Auto-Sleepers, eager to utilize the new system, has ensured that its blown-air heated 'vans for the 2025 model year will incorporate the CombiNeo heater. Other motorhome manufacturers, however, must wait until the Duesseldorf Caravan Salon in September for the European rollout of the product.
The new boiler offers additional advantages, such as a lighter weight (21kg compared to the existing Combi 6E's 27.2kg) and a more compact, rectangular shape, freeing up storage space. Truma has also launched a new control panel for the heater, featuring a touchscreen design, eliminating the need for traditional knobs and icons, and allowing for easy connection with a smartphone app via Bluetooth.
Truma has planned a series of new products for their 75th anniversary, including the Eezy electric heater and the second-generation Aventa air-conditioning system. To ensure a smooth transition with the new CombiNeo system, Truma has deployed a team of mobile engineers to visit each Auto-Sleepers dealer, offering training and support when the new motorhomes begin arriving later this spring.
While the wait for a hot shower may soon be a thing of the past, remember to properly level your motorhome to keep the water in the shower tray!
