Customs Raid Nets Steroids, Untaxed Fuel, Counterfeits; Two Arrested

Customs authorities across Bavaria and beyond have launched a major operation, seizing illegal substances, untaxed fuel, and counterfeit goods. The coordinated effort, involving units from Regensburg, Furth im Wald, Waidhaus, Selb, and other locations, sent a strong message against smuggling and crime.

Over three days in May 2025, 85 customs officers led by René Matschke targeted money laundering and terrorism financing. Their efforts yielded a significant haul: 11 vials and 86 tablets of anabolic steroids, various unapproved medications, and 130 liters of untaxed diesel. Two arrests were made, with nine criminal proceedings initiated.

In one instance, a Polish entrepreneur was found carrying a large sum of cash without proof of a truck purchase. The cash was seized, and an administrative offense procedure was launched. Meanwhile, customs officers in Furth im Wald discovered 3 kilograms of cocaine and 10 liters of liquid amphetamine in a Bosnian vehicle, with the driver admitting the drugs originated from the Netherlands. Elsewhere, Ukrainian travelers were caught smuggling 30 new luxury designer handbags, leading to a tax evasion procedure and import duties totalling over 11,200 euros.

The operation also targeted illegal narcotics trafficking. A driver was arrested, and the case is being investigated by the Customs Investigation Office Munich, with potential imprisonment of up to 15 years.

The successful operation, marked by smooth cooperation and modern technology, underscored the importance of customs monitoring in border areas. It demonstrated the wide range of smuggling activities and the commitment of authorities to combat them. The seizures and arrests sent clear signals against crime, ensuring the safety and security of the region.
