Debut of the inaugural book fair along the Middle Rhine, held at Sayner Hütte

On the weekends of January 25th and 26th, the historic Sayner Hut was abuzz with the vibrant energy of the 1st Rhine-Middle Book Fair. Orchestrated by the Culture Workshop of Rhineland-Palatinate Writers, the Association of German Writers Rhineland-Palatinate, and the Sayner Hut themselves, the event was a smashing success.

With over 60 exhibitors gracing the Krupp Hall and their cozy side buildings, the fair boasted every literary genre imaginable—from children's and young adult fiction to dark crime novels and inspiring spiritual works, there was something enticing for every reader's palate. The alluring atmosphere, enveloped by the historical walls of the Krupp Hall and the inviting warmth of the side buildings, played host to countless readings throughout the weekend.

Diverse Program Caters to Literary Enthusiasts of All Ages

Saturday afternoon resonated with the laughter and curiosity of young literature enthusiasts, as Ulf Stoermer, the award-winning "Lesemann" (Reader Man), captivated the young audience with an interactive event that encouraged active participation. For those under 17, admission to the fair was free and generously offered, creating a beacon of opportunity for bibliophiles of all backgrounds.

Sunday wasn't left behind in the whirlwind of excitement; a writing competition organized in collaboration with Bendorfer Bookshop saw children and young people from across the region present their brilliant original works. The judging panel was utterly captivated, awarding prizes in two age groups for the exceptional talent displayed in the submitted texts. Every participant received small prizes and words of encouragement, not only providing a wonderful sense of accomplishment but also leaving budding authors eager to write more.

A Haven for Regional and Independent Authors

One of the primary goals of the book fair was to act as a platform for local and independent authors, ensuring their voices were heard amidst the well-known publishers and bestselling authors. The reading "Welcome to Eden Lake" by Claire Larsen, an independent work, enjoyed a warm reception from the audience, hinting at the appreciation for the lesser-known writers in the region.

Another evening highlight was the Crime Night, which took place on Saturday evening. The spellbinding duo of Dieter Aurass, Jörg Schmitt-Kilian, Susanne Arnold, and Andrea Revers captivated the audience with their unique concept. Seamlessly switching roles and reading from each other's texts, they were accompanied by engaging musical performances that left the sold-out audience craving for more.

A Triumphant Launch with High Hopes for the Future

The 1st Rhine-Middle Book Fair was met with nothing but praise from exhibitors, visitors, and literature enthusiasts from near and far. The successful amalgamation of literary diversity, family spirit, and the grandeur of the Sayner Hut created a truly memorable experience for all involved. The organizers were thrilled with the response and have already announced plans for a follow-up event.

With the amazing Popularity and success of the inaugural Rhine-Middle Book Fair, the event has firmly established itself in the literary calendar of the region—not just as a stage for literature, but as a meeting ground for literature fans of all ages, and an undeniable enrichment for the cultural landscape of the Rhine-Middle region.
