S Sixty seniors from Maxhütte-Haidhof recently embarked on a memorable journey to Regensburg, Germany, for a day filled with history, culture, and delicious Bavarian cuisine.

The tour began at the Regensburg Cathedral (Dom St. Peter), a Gothic masterpiece with stunning stained glass windows and royal tombs. The seniors were then treated to a leisurely ride on a historic tram, providing a comprehensive overview of the city's rich history and culture.

The tram tour passed by Regensburg's main attractions, including the Old Town area, with its nearly 1,500 listed buildings from Roman to modern times. The seniors marveled at the colourful murals, such as the Goliath House mural, ancient city gates like Porta Praetoria, and medieval towers like the Baumburger Turm.

One of the highlights of the tour was a stop at the Old Stone Bridge (Steinerne Brücke), a 12th-century medieval bridge renowned for its unique arch design and panoramic river views. The bridge, a model for famous bridges in London and Prague, offered the seniors a chance to capture some memorable photographs.

The tour continued with a visit to the historic Wurstkuchl and Alte Würstkuchl am Dom, two famous sausage kitchens in Regensburg. The seniors enjoyed traditional Bavarian cuisine, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Another stop on the tour was Thurn & Taxis Castle, where the seniors had the opportunity to explore the interior. They also visited St. Emmeram's Abbey during their tour, learning about its history and architecture.

The tour concluded with a visit to the Spital am See, a historic hospital complex, before ending with a leisurely stroll along the Danube promenade, offering stunning views of Regensburg's skyline.

Throughout the tour, the seniors learned many interesting and entertaining facts about Regensburg, making it an unforgettable experience. The seniors from Maxhütte-Haidhof were grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful city and its rich history.
