Dormagen & Chipata Conference: Partnership Success and Future Plans
A delegation from Dormagen and Chipata recently gathered in Gießen for an event from September 8 to 11, 2025. The event showcased their partnership projects and discussed future collaborations.
The event was led by Mayor Donald Mwanza and Angela Kampinda from Chipata, and Mayor Erik Lierenfeld from Dormagen. A highlight was the 'Evening of Encounters' at the Historic Town Hall, which offered insights into life in Chipata and the partnership's achievements so far.
The cities, both facing increasing drought, have been working together since December 2021 when the 'Freundeskreis Dormagen-Chipata e.V.' organization was established. In Chipata, 10,000 new trees have been planted, reforesting an area equivalent to 28 football fields. The event also discussed exchange programs for trainees and young professionals, and an urban drainage plan for Chipata to ensure environmentally friendly water management.
The successful event ended with plans to make the city partnership more visible and accessible. Upcoming events include a children's participation event and a film evening on Zambia's Independence Day, October 24. The partnership association is set to be founded in December.
