The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV and the 2010 GMC Sierra 4x4, though belonging to the same automotive family, are worlds apart in terms of range, performance, charging speed, and user experience.

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV boasts an impressive electric range of up to approximately 319 miles (513 km) for the front-wheel drive variant, according to Natural Resources Canada and EPA estimates. The AWD variant offers a slightly shorter range of around 307 miles (494 km). On the other hand, the 2010 Sierra 4x4, a decade-old gas-powered truck, has a typical fuel tank range of around 500-600 km (300-370 miles), depending on tank size and driving conditions, but its range is limited by gas consumption and refueling stops.

In terms of performance, the Equinox EV offers instant torque and smooth acceleration. The front-drive variant can reach 0-100 km/h in about 8.0 seconds, while the AWD variant achieves this feat in around 6.0 seconds, thanks to its powerful electric motor. The 2010 Sierra 4x4, with various gasoline engine options, typically delivers slower acceleration times, with the exact figures depending on the engine type and condition.

When it comes to charging speed, the Equinox EV supports DC fast charging of up to 150 kW, which can replenish approximately 77 miles (124 km) of range in just 10 minutes. The 2010 Sierra 4x4, being a gas-powered vehicle, requires conventional refueling without fast charging capabilities.

The user experience offered by the Equinox EV is a far cry from the traditional interior of the 2010 Sierra 4x4. The Equinox EV features electric driving with near-silent operation, advanced digital instrumentation, heated seats and steering wheel, electronic precision shift, and vehicle-to-home (V2H) power capability. In contrast, the 2010 Sierra 4x4 offers rugged utility with more basic, traditional interior tech reflecting its era and purpose.

During Joshua Huber's road trip, he encountered several out-of-order EV Connect charging stations. Despite these hiccups, Huber's Equinox EV averaged $0.136 per mile on electricity, compared to $0.31 per mile in his 2010 GMC Sierra 4x4. Tesla chargers provided faster charging and lower costs during his trip, adding 27.7 kWh in 13 minutes and 32.3 kWh in 21 minutes.

Joshua Huber completed a 748-mile road trip using a 2025 Chevy Equinox EV LT, qualifying for the full $7,500 federal tax credit. The Equinox EV LT FWD delivers 220 hp and 242 lb-ft of torque, ensuring a responsive driving experience.

In summary, the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV represents a significant leap in technology, efficiency, and user amenities compared to the 2010 GMC Sierra 4x4, which is built more for utility and traditional off-road work without electric capabilities. With its impressive range, swift performance, fast charging speed, and modern user experience, the Equinox EV is a compelling choice for those seeking a stylish and efficient electric SUV.
