In the bustling heart of Dubai, the global hub for travelers and shoppers, Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has once again made headlines with its impressive performance in Q1 2025. The managing director, Ramesh Cidambi, oversees this retail powerhouse that continues to break records.

Dubai Duty Free's Q1 2025 sales contributed to a year-to-date total of AED 4.734 billion (US$1.29 billion), marking a 5.86% increase compared to the same period last year. The first seven months, including Q1, showed consistent growth, indicating a strong start to the year.

Although the top-selling categories for Q1 2025 have not been detailed explicitly, Dubai Duty Free's overall sales growth is notable. The increase in sales was observed despite a modest 2.3% increase in passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport, suggesting a strong demand across key product categories such as luxury goods, perfumes and cosmetics, electronics, watches, and liquor.

July 2025 sales hit a record high of AED 638.8 million (US$175 million), a 9.7% increase from July 2024, boosting the year-to-date numbers. The overall 5.86% year-to-date sales growth exceeds passenger growth of 2.3%, indicating increased spend per passenger or an improved product mix.

Dubai Duty Free achieved sales records in five out of the first seven months of 2025, showing sustained momentum across Q1, Q2, and into Q3.

The outstanding performance of DDF in Q1 2025 is attributed to the integration of top-tier retail services and a surge in passenger traffic. DDF is focusing on premium product segments and is strategically promoting its products. The outlook for the remainder of 2025 for DDF is robust.

Furthermore, Dubai Duty Free reported record-breaking first-quarter sales of AED2.06 billion (US$565 million) in 2025. February 2025 was the highest-grossing month in DDF's history, with sales of AED709 million (US$194 million). Perfumes were the top-selling category, generating AED371 million and accounting for 18% of total revenue.

Interestingly, confectionery sales at DDF experienced a 57% year-on-year growth in 2025, driven by the popularity of Dubai-branded chocolate promotions.

Dubai Duty Free is not resting on its laurels, as it continues to innovate and expand its offerings. The aviation and tourism sectors in Dubai are thriving, and DDF is experiencing strong operational performance. With these factors in play, DDF is on course for another landmark year.

  1. The strong sales growth at Dubai Duty Free in Q1 2025, despite only a modest increase in passenger traffic, indicates a positive trend in lifestyle spending within the tourism sector.
  2. The impressive performance of Dubai Duty Free in Q1 2025 has a significant impact on the local economy, boosting revenue in the finance, business, and travel sectors.
