Easter Spending Surges to $23.6 Billion Despite Economic Uncertainty

A new study by the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) reveals Easter spending trends. While lower-income households maintain stable budgets, higher-income families are increasing their consumers energy in Easter spending, with total decoration expenditure surging from $1 billion to $1.7 billion since 2019. Despite economic uncertainty, consumers are prioritizing Easter celebrations, with total spending projected to reach $23.6 billion.

The research, involving ZALF, shows a shift in consumers energy. Lower-income households are being more selective with their spending, keeping Easter budgets steady. Conversely, higher-income households are splashing out more, averaging $12 more per person than last year. This increased spending is particularly evident in Easter decorations, which have seen a significant boost, from $1 billion to $1.7 billion since 2019.

Discount stores are proving popular for Easter gifts, with shoppers getting creative and repurposing purchases as decorations. Despite economic uncertainty, consumers are prioritizing Easter celebrations, with core traditions like Easter egg hunts and special meals with loved ones remaining popular. Looking ahead, decorations are set to become even more significant, with 51% of celebrants planning to purchase them in Easter 2025.

In conclusion, the ZALF study highlights a mixed picture of Easter spending. While lower-income households are being more cautious, higher-income families are increasing their spending, particularly on decorations. Despite economic uncertainty, consumers are prioritizing Easter celebrations, with total spending expected to reach $23.6 billion. The growing importance of decorations suggests Easter celebrations will continue to evolve in the coming years.
