Embrace the Radiance: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Summer in St. Moritz
St. Moritz, Switzerland, is a summer paradise with 300 days of sunshine a year, and it's no wonder that independent art curator and advisor Angeliki Kim Perfetti has made it her second home.
Perfetti, who grew up in Swedish Lapland deep inside the Arctic Circle, recommends several summer spots around St. Moritz. One of her favourites is Lake Staz, which can be reached by rented bicycle. Here, you can swim, sunbathe on floating platforms, picnic, and enjoy barbeques by the fire pits.
For those seeking adventure, Perfetti suggests Silvaplana near Surlej, where you can try kitesurfing or bike riding around a beautiful blue lake.
If you're in the mood for a charming alpine secret, head to Hotel Restaurant Roseg Gletscher, a short horse-and-carriage ride away from Pontrasina. Known for its famous pudding buffet, it's a must-visit.
Perfetti also recommends Bellavista restaurant in neighbouring Surlej for its great atmosphere and excellent food.
In the heart of St. Moritz, the Grace La Margna, a contemporary hotel open for half a century, offers something different from traditional restaurants with its Beefbar outpost. In February, the hotel partnered with artist Pietro Terzini on a series of graffiti-inspired projections.
But St. Moritz isn't just about outdoor activities and contemporary hotels. The town is also home to the "Light" exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, curated by Angeliki Kim Perfetti. Running until August 30, 2025, this exhibition explores the phenomenon of light through various contemporary artists, reflecting Perfetti's curatorial interest and connection to the region.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is Jenny Holzer's work, a mixed-medium piece on linen comprising more than four types of gold. "Loud music," a work in "Light," has heavily redacted government documents from the George W. Bush era layered underneath.
Perfetti, the founder of Dynamisk Independent Curating and Art Advisory, is also a fan of Jenny Holzer's work. The historic Badrutt's Palace, across the street from Hauser & Wirth, added a traditional nicoise salad to the light lunch menu at the Grand Hall restaurant in honour of this exhibition.
For those seeking a taste of history, Badrutt's Palace is a must-visit. The Romanesque-style town of Zuoz, known for its well-preserved beauty, is also worth a visit. The Castell Zuoz hotel in Zuoz doubles as an exhibition space, featuring a James Turrell open-topped cylinder for sky observation.
Whether you're an art enthusiast, an outdoor adventurer, or simply looking for a unique holiday experience, St. Moritz has something for everyone. With its stunning landscapes, vibrant art scene, and warm hospitality, it's no wonder that Angeliki Kim Perfetti has made it her summer home.
