Express Entry Draws 500 CEC Candidates, Welcomes New Immigration Minister
Canada's Express Entry system has seen significant activity in 2025, with the latest draw taking place on 21 May, 2024, at 5:26 p.m. Universal Coordinated Time (UTC). This draw, the fourth in May, focused on Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates and marked the last Express Entry candidate selection under the previous Immigration Minister, Rachel Bendayan.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates in today's draw. This brings the total number of ITAs issued through the Express Entry system in 2025 to 34,440. Candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 547 to be considered in this draw.
The draw also signifies a change in leadership, with Prime Minister Mark Carney's latest cabinet shuffle appointing Lena Metlege Diab as Canada's new Minister of Immigration. Diab succeeds Rachel Bendayan, who has overseen Express Entry draws until now. Diab's mandate includes stabilizing new permanent resident levels, increasing francophone immigration, revamping the Global Talent Stream, and reducing temporary resident levels.
With 500 ITAs issued, today's Express Entry draw brings the total for 2025 to 34,440. The system continues to play a crucial role in Canada's immigration strategy, with the new Minister Lena Metlege Diab set to oversee future draws and implement her mandate for the department.
