Faster Travel for Tourists Along Odisha's New Pipili-Konark Highway Route
Breaking News: New Highway Project in Odisha to Ease Traffic and Boost Tourism
A significant infrastructure development is underway in the districts of Puri and Nimapara, Odisha. The Odisha Public Works Department (PWD) has taken the initiative to construct a new 40-km, four-lane highway connecting Pipili and Konark, aiming to reduce travel time from 90 minutes to just 30 minutes.
The new highway, designed as a four-lane expressway, measuring approximately 200 ft in width, is a part of a larger initiative to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and support tourism and regional development. The project is expected to be completed in 2025, with construction timelines to be announced soon.
Preliminary design work for the new highway is already underway. The existing Pipili-Konark road will be widened from 7 to 10 m to complement the new corridor. Surveys are scheduled for important inner-city routes in Puri, such as Chaitanya Road to Balisahi, the approach to the Jagannath Temple via Dolamandap Sahi, and the section from Jhadeshwari Club to Medical Chhak.
Key routes in Puri town being upgraded include the road from Taj International to Jagannath Stadium. Other roads under survey for improvements include Chaitanya Road to Balisahi and Dolamandap Sahi. The improvements do not pertain to Bhitarkanika National Park or its surrounding areas.
In the Nimapara constituency, two new four-lane roads are being planned. One is connecting Charichhak to Astarang, and another is running between Jalarpur and Charichhak. These road projects aim to reduce travel times, improve safety, ease festival and seasonal congestion, and make historic and religious sites more accessible.
The new highway is expected to allow for smooth, uninterrupted travel at speeds reaching 100 km/h. The road projects are focused on Odisha, specifically the districts of Puri and Nimapara, and are part of a larger initiative to support the region's growth and development.
These road projects are expected to have a positive impact on tourism, as they will make it easier for visitors to reach key destinations such as the Jagannath Temple, Konark Sun Temple, and Chilika Lake. The improved connectivity is also expected to boost local businesses and stimulate economic growth in the region.
In conclusion, the new highway project in Odisha is an exciting development that will bring significant benefits to the region. By easing traffic congestion, improving connectivity, and supporting tourism and regional development, the project is set to transform the way people travel in Odisha and make it a more attractive destination for tourists and businesses alike.
