First Bamboo Verified Hotels Announced by Tuu Eco Stay Awards: Regent Hong Kong, Pullman Phuket Karon, and Zannier Bãi San Hô Recognized for Sustainable Practices in Bamboo Use
Tuu Eco Stay Awards: Recognizing Sustainable Hotels Across Asia
The Tuu Eco Stay Awards are a renowned sustainability certification program for hotels and accommodations, designed to verify and showcase their environmental and social responsibility efforts. These awards provide a cost-effective, high-trust pathway for hotels of all sizes to compete on sustainability leadership.
To earn the Tuu's Verified Bamboo Badge, each hotel submits at least six consecutive months of operational data for independent review. This data is used to assess the hotel's sustainable practices, such as energy and water conservation, waste reduction, community engagement, and carbon footprint management.
Achieving the award helps properties demonstrate credible progress in sustainability to guests, stakeholders, and industry peers, often with third-party validation. Each verified hotel receives a public-facing Eco Profile, a digital page that shows its Verified Bamboo Badge, aggregated monthly score, and sustainability highlights.
HLB Thailand is responsible for verifying all Tuu Eco Stay Awards submissions, using international standards from the HLB International audit and advisory network. Some of the hotels that have earned the Verified Bamboo Badge include The Regent Hong Kong, Pullman Phuket Karon Beach Resort, and Zannier Bãi San Hô.
These hotels have shown impressive sustainability efforts. For instance, Zannier Bãi San Hô, a luxury resort in Vietnam, boasts solar infrastructure that supplies up to 40% of its energy. The Regent Hong Kong, which reopened in 2023 after extensive renovation, has achieved a 23% reduction in electricity use following the renovation.
The hotels maximized the reporting already compiled for recent EarthCheck Platinum, Green Key, and Green Globe certifications to earn the Verified Bamboo Badge. This streamlined process makes it easier for hotels to participate in the Tuu Eco Stay Awards, encouraging more hotels to join the program.
In addition to the Verified Bamboo Badge, hotels can apply for 30 independently judged Eco Stay Awards across four categories: Environmental Impact, Local Community, Cultural Heritage, and Sustainability Planning. Official partners of the Tuu Eco Stay Awards, such as ecoSPIRITS, Lumitics, Asia Sustainable Travel, Phuket Hotels Association, One Planet Journey, C9 Hotelworks, and Delivering Asia, support this initiative.
Tuu also helps hotels turn their verified progress and awards into engaging content. This can range from in-room storytelling to investor-ready reports. With more than 20 hotels already participating in the Tuu Eco Stay Awards across Asia, gaining traction with boutique independents and global brands alike, it's clear that the program is making a significant impact in promoting sustainable practices in the hospitality industry.
