Global Flavors: Savoring Delicious Comfort Meals from Around the World

In the heart of Los Angeles, an extraordinary evening unfolded, where food served as a language of cultural expression, taking guests on a soul-warming journey through soul-stirring dishes from Japan, Brazil, and Morocco.

The event, sponsored by MUFG, aimed to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion, and was supported by the LA Foundation, which has been presenting a series of DEI programs. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation will contribute to the ongoing efforts of the dedicated LAFD firefighters who safeguard Los Angeles communities impacted by wildfires.

The LA Foundation's DEI program focuses on fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the fire department, supporting underrepresented groups among firefighters, and creating equitable opportunities internally. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation, on the other hand, engages in awarding grants to create jobs in underserved communities and promotes equity and inclusion in economic development in Los Angeles County, which may indirectly support community services including public safety.

Catering for Moroccan cuisine was provided by Casablanca Moroccan Kitchens, offering vegan couscous, lamb honey tagine, lemon chicken tagine, Moroccan mint tea, and tea cookies. Catering for Japanese cuisine was provided by Gindaco (Takoyaki), Gin no An (Taiyaki), Tenkatori (Karaage), and Gindaco Highball Sakaba (Edamame, onigiri). Brazilian cuisine offerings included shrimp croquette, feijoada with rice, passionfruit mousse, and caipirinha, provided by Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine.

The first DEI program in 2025 explored the heart of culinary traditions with an emphasis on comfort foods. Following the talks, guests were treated to networking while indulging in authentic tastes that go beyond a simple meal. The event culminated in a "Comfort Food" Tasting Experience from 7:15 PM to 8:30 PM.

Each country's most cherished comfort foods were shared, exploring how these dishes are more than sustenance - they're edible memories and cultural touchstones. The program delved into the stories, memories, and cultural connections behind comfort foods from Japan, Brazil, and Morocco, promising a truly immersive cultural experience.

The funds raised from ticket sales will support the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation, continuing their efforts to uplift marginalized communities and promote equity and inclusion in economic development in Los Angeles County. The Foundation will match every dollar donated, up to at least $25,000.
