Gourmet Meal at El Brellin Restaurant
El Brellin: A Charming Italian Gem in Milan
Nestled in the heart of Milan, along the picturesque Vicolo dei Lavandai, lies El Brellin - an upscale Italian restaurant that perfectly blends traditional Milanese and northern Italian cuisine with Mediterranean and European influences.
Once an old grocery store frequented by women washing clothes, the building now boasts a 1700s fireplace and stunning coffered ceilings, retaining its historical charm while providing an upscale yet rustic and authentic ambiance. The restaurant's lively atmosphere, particularly at night, makes it a perfect addition to the vibrant nightlife scene in the area, surrounded by a variety of other restaurants.
El Brellin offers a menu that changes regularly, emphasizing seasonal and regional specialties. Signature dishes include risotto alla Milanese, potato gnocchi with grain, cold cuts, a unique cheese flan, and venison sausage with a sweet purée. The restaurant caters to various dietary needs, offering options for vegetarian and gluten-free diets.
Recently, I dined at El Brellin with a friend, and we were not disappointed. For the first course, we shared a platter of various salami and ham slices, accompanied by a side salad of chopped fat and meat. The cheese flan, a cheesy, slightly dense cake topped with a cheese cracker and creamy sauce, was a unique and interesting taste.
For the main course, I ordered pumpkin ravioli, which was in a light, creamy sauce with dollops of pumpkin. The flavor was overpowering but delicious. My companion opted for a large steak with a savory gravy, accompanied by sweet pea puree and pickled cabbage. The steak was well-seasoned and enjoyed by both of us.
El Brellin's romantic, quaint atmosphere, with decorative nods to its historical past, makes it an ideal location for a candlelit dinner by the water. Whether you're seeking a traditional Italian meal or a unique dining experience, El Brellin is certainly worth a visit.
