Himalayan Knot Exhibit Debuts, Empowering Craftspeople & Communities

The Himalayan Knot exhibit and collection debuted last Friday at The Kunj, helmed by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). The event was a tribute to the Himalayas, showcasing craftsmanship, resilience, and sustainability. It aimed to weave together legacies, landscapes, and livelihoods, empowering women and strengthening Himalayan communities.

The collections feature new collaborations such as Letters to Home by Countrymade and The Woolknitters from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. The exhibit also reintroduces past alliances like EKA x Looms of Ladakh and Sonam Dubal x The Action Northeast Trust. These crafts are meticulously crafted in the remote villages of Jhanjeli and Kullu, drawing inspiration from mountain landscapes and memory.

The launch event concluded with a captivating performance by the Ao Naga Choir and the announcement of the second edition of Journeying Across the Himalayas festival. The festival, themed Ours to Tell, will take place from December 4 to 10, 2025, at Travancore Palace, New Delhi.

The Himalayan Knot exhibit and collection is a celebration of Himalayan culture and tradition. It not only showcases the beauty of Himalayan craftsmanship but also empowers local communities and women. The upcoming festival promises to continue this legacy, giving a platform to Himalayan stories and voices.
