Historic Ride on World Children's Day Aboard the Unique "Wrapping Rail" Train

In an exciting event, the historic train made its maiden voyage from the main station to Beyenburg on February 8, 2025. The train, which also stopped at Oberbarmen, was warmly welcomed by hundreds of eager spectators.

The picturesque town of Beyenburg, an inviting destination for an excursion, was the final stop for this inaugural ride. The event was marked by a small celebration, with Ulrich Grotstollen, the chairman of the "Wupperschiene" association, delivering a speech.

The Wuppertalbahn, funded and operated by the "Wupperschiene" association, aims to provide families with children a pleasant day out. Children under six years old can enjoy free admission, while those aged 6 to 14 pay five euros for the round trip. Access to the historic carriages, however, is not barrier-free, but assistance is provided.

The train's operation on the tourist route from Wuppertal-Rauental (Oberbarmen) to Beyenburg was made possible in February 2025. The first ride departs from Beyenburg to Oberbarmen around 10 am, with the second departure around 11 am. Exact departure times can be found on the Wuppertalbahn homepage (www.wuppertalbahn.eu).

The plan is for the train to continue to Dahlerau, Vogelsmühle, and Dahlhausen, eventually reaching the Staudamm of the Wuppertalsperre Radevormwald-Wilhelmstal. However, there are still some remaining tasks to be done before this section can operate. The section from Beyenburg to the Staudamm is not yet approved for operation.

Around 250 guests were on the inaugural train ride, making for a memorable day. The Wuppertalbahn offers a unique and enjoyable experience, providing a pleasant day out for families with children.

Peter Gerigk, the current chairman of the "Wupperschiene" association, expressed his delight at the successful debut of the historic train. He looks forward to the continued operation of the Wuppertalbahn and the positive impact it will have on the local community.
