Hotel Construction by Hyatt Group Underway Between East Station and East Side Gallery
The Schilling Bridge, a historic landmark in Berlin, has a new neighbor – the Me and All Hotel Berlin East Side, which was opened by the Hyatt hotel group on September 16, 2022. Built in 1881, the Schilling Bridge has been spanning the Spree in Berlin since 1874, and it connects Friedrichshain in the north with Kreuzberg and Mitte in the south.
The Schilling Bridge underwent significant renovation between 1991 and 1994, during which it was largely restored to its original historic brick vault construction. The bridge, which has steel constructions for sidewalks and relief decorations on pillars, is now an important traffic axis in the city.
The Me and All Hotel, strategically located at the intersection of cultural institutions, new office quarters, and tourist hotspots, is a short walk from major Berlin attractions such as the Oberbaum Bridge, Ostbahnhof, or the Warschauer Bridge. The hotel, which is on the northern bank of the Spree near the border with Kreuzberg, has a total of 227 rooms.
The architectural concept of the Me and All Hotel aims to unite both functional aspects of hotel operations and references to the location. The design consciously references Berlin's divided history and combines it with modern comfort. The design concept of the hotel references East and West modernism between 1950 and 1980.
The Schilling Bridge took over the Andreasstraße and became part of important traffic axes. The bridge was built under the leadership of Leopold Seeck and replaced an older private wooden bridge. The bridge was severely damaged during World War II, but it was protected as a historic monument during its renovation.
