Investment of RON 200 million in tourist infrastructure planned for Hunedoara and Arad counties in Western Romania

In Hunedoara County, local authorities have announced significant investments aimed at improving tourist infrastructure and preserving sites of cultural and historical importance. The two main projects underway are the King's Road and the Oraștie-Costești county road.

The King's Road, connecting the spa resort Vața de Jos and the Royal Castle at Săvârșin, is set to receive approximately RON 200 million in funding. This investment is part of the Regional West Program 2021-2027 and will focus on highlighting the road's historical significance, as well as improving access. The project is expected to take 36 months to complete.

The Oraștie-Costești county road, a 17-kilometer stretch providing direct access to the Dacian fortress Sarmizegetusa in the Oraștie Mountains, as well as the Costești and Blidaru fortresses, is another key investment. With an estimated value of over RON 68 million, this project will be funded through a regional program, with the Hunedoara County Council contributing a 2% co-financing share. This road is crucial for facilitating tourist access to these historic sites, which attracted over 67,000 visitors last year.

The King's Road, located in Hunedoara County, was initially built in the post-war period by order of King Michael I of Romania and was paved with cobblestone. The project aims to shorten access between Săvârșin and the Vața de Jos resort, enhancing the tourist experience.

After the completion of documentation, a partnership agreement will be concluded with Arad County for the King's Road project. The total investments for this project are worth RON 200 million.

The Oraștie-Costești county road project does not have a specified duration or completion date at this time. However, it is expected to play a vital role in boosting tourism and preserving the region's rich history.
