Kerala Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) welcomes new Scientific Officers into their ranks.

The Kerala Police Department has announced vacancies for the posts of Scientific Assistants in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram. A total of 57 vacant posts have been notified, and interested and eligible candidates can apply online from 10th December 2020 to 16th December 2020.

**Eligibility Criteria**

To be eligible for these posts, candidates must possess a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in the relevant subject (Physics, Chemistry, or Biology) with a minimum of 55% marks from a recognized university. Alternatively, M.Sc. in Forensic Science with 55% marks can also be acceptable, with a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject. Some posts may require a Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA) or computer literacy certification.

The age of the applicant should be between 21 and 36 as on the date of notification. Relaxations are generally applicable for reserved categories such as EBC/BC, female candidates, SC/ST, and PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disability), with maximum age limits extended up to 40 years depending on category.

**Selection Process**

The selection process for all posts includes a written and oral examination. The written test is a single-stage examination consisting of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering the relevant science subjects at the graduation level. The duration of the exam can be around 90 minutes to 2 hours, and negative marking may be applied.

Candidates who qualify the written exam based on the merit list are called for document verification. Proper educational and category certificates must be produced. Selection is then based solely on the marks obtained in the written examination. No interview stage is typically involved.

**Application Process**

Candidates can find more details on the website [www.keralapolice.gov.in](http://www.keralapolice.gov.in). The application is free of charge, and the posts are on a contractual basis.

For more precise criteria and process, candidates are advised to refer to the official Kerala Police Department or State Forensic Science Laboratory recruitment notification for the year 2020 on their official website or government employment portals.

It is worth noting that some departments may specify computer proficiency due to the nature of forensic work. The exact syllabus includes topics like fundamental principles of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology tailored to forensic applications. Age calculation and category relaxations align with standard state government or PSC rules.
