Mid-flight Brawl Between Four Passengers Prompts Hong Kong Airlines to Contact Korean Authorities

On August 8, 2025, a heated dispute between four passengers on Hong Kong Airlines flight HX628 from Hong Kong to Seoul escalated during the flight. The conflict started between two pairs, with one group speaking Mandarin and the other Cantonese.

The argument, which involved verbal insults and physical grabbing, was triggered by accusations of hitting children. A video circulated online showed the efforts of three flight attendants to calm and separate the passengers. Despite the escalation, the dispute did not further disturb the other passengers on the plane.

Upon landing in Seoul, all four passengers were handed over to Korean authorities for further investigation. The flight had taken off at 9:09 AM from Hong Kong and landed at 1:03 PM in Seoul.

This is not the first incident of its kind in the airline industry. Mid-air disputes, often related to personal conflicts or misunderstandings, have been reported in the past. These incidents typically result in intervention by flight crews and notification of local authorities upon landing.

In a similar incident last month, an argument occurred on an HK Express flight from the resort island of Phu Quoc in Vietnam to Hong Kong. The dispute involved a Portuguese woman and a mainland Chinese man traveling with his three-year-old nephew. The Mandarin-speaking woman claimed that the child had hit a passenger, leading to a heated exchange. The incident was captured on video and widely shared on the Chinese social media platform RedNote.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either of the incidents. As the investigations continue, it is hoped that such incidents can be prevented in the future, ensuring a safe and peaceful journey for all passengers.
