Northern Okinawa undergoes a renewal effort, as Junglia officially opens, aiming to breathe new life into the region.

Junglia Okinawa: A Nature-Themed Amusement Park Transforming Northern Okinawa

Junglia Okinawa, a large-scale nature-themed amusement park, has opened its doors in the northern Yanbaru region of Okinawa Prefecture, southernmost Japan. The park, designed by Katana Inc., a marketing company based in Osaka, aims to revitalize the local economy and boost tourism, particularly in the less-visited northern part of the prefecture [1][2][3].

Junglia Okinawa is not your typical iron and concrete amusement park. Instead, it offers an immersive experience integrated with Yanbaru's rich natural environment. Visitors can enjoy unique attractions such as a Dinosaur Safari, a giant horizon balloon ride, and a Guinness World Record-holding infinity spa, all designed to showcase nature and provide "Power Vacation!!" experiences [1][5].

The park straddles the village of Nakijin and the city of Nago. Local communities hope that Junglia Okinawa will attract tourists to northern Okinawa, a region that has often been skipped by tourists. The Okinawa prefectural government has taken measures to address traffic concerns related to the park, including widening roads and providing free shuttle buses [2][3].

According to Katsuhiro Miyamoto, professor emeritus at Kansai University, Junglia Okinawa is expected to have an economic impact of 6,808 billion yen and create 880,000 jobs over the next 15 years [1][2][3]. The park's success could contribute significantly to Okinawa's recent tourism-driven economic recovery recognized by Japan's Finance Ministry [4].

In summary, Junglia Okinawa aims to transform northern Okinawa into a major tourism hub, distribute tourism benefits more evenly across the prefecture, create substantial local employment, and contribute significantly to long-term economic growth by leveraging Okinawa’s natural heritage in an environmentally conscious, sustainable manner [1][2][3][5].
