Over 200 Delegates Gather for Germany-Africa Municipal Partnership Conference

Over 200 delegates from 18 African countries and Germany gathered in Gießen from September 8 to 11, 2025, for the 6th Partnership Conference between municipalities in Germany and Sub-Saharan Africa. The event, themed around sustainable urban development and international cooperation, was attended by students from Gießen and Radisele in Botswana, eager to learn about global collaboration.

Mayor Frank-Tilo Becher kicked off the conference, quoting, 'Knowledge is the only resource that grows when shared.' The conference focused on various aspects, including fair trade and procurement, digital mobility concepts, urban planning, and refugee integration. It addressed challenges like differing framework conditions and limited resources.

The conference highlighted the city partnership between Gießen and Swakopmund as a successful example of international cooperation. It emphasised the role of municipal partnerships in fostering trust, social participation, and opening new perspectives. Cities like Harare and Munich also participated, although specific details about all attending cities are not provided.
