Princess Gina Trail Honours Royal Advocate for Biodiversity
The Princess Gina Trail, a scenic route in Liechtenstein, has been named in honour of Princess Gina, a dedicated advocate for biodiversity and mountain region protection. The trail, which lies on the border of Liechtenstein, Austria, and Switzerland, offers hikers a unique experience through rugged terrain and stunning panoramic views.
The trail begins at the Sareis mountain station above Malbun, Liechtenstein's only ski resort, which is accessible by public transport via bus line 21 from Vaduz. It leads hikers to the Sareiserjoch and then up to the Augstenberg summit, reaching an elevation of 2,359 m above sea level. Along the way, hikers can enjoy the vibrant colours of alpine flowers and the rugged rock formations.
Named by Princess Gina, the mother of the current Prince Hans-Adam II, the trail offers a fantastic panoramic view of the Falknis chain, the Schesaplana, and the villages of Malbun and Nenzinger Himmel. The Pfälzerhütte on the Austrian border serves as the starting point for the Liechtenstein Way to the Schesaplana, the highest peak in the Rätikon at 2,964 m above sea level.
The Princess Gina Trail is a varied ridge trail that combines nature, panoramic views, and a genuine mountain experience. It is a testament to Princess Gina's commitment to preserving Liechtenstein's natural beauty and promoting biodiversity.
