Prohibited Items at Oktoberfest 2025: Restrictions at the Wiesn
The world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich is just around the corner, and with it comes a set of rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Here's a handy guide to help you navigate the festival grounds with ease.
Firstly, let's talk about what you can bring. Mint drops are allowed, making it easier to keep fresh during the festivities. You can also bring drinks, but they must not be in glass bottles. Plastic water bottles are acceptable, but they cannot be taken into the tents or beer gardens.
However, there are certain items that are not permitted. Spray cans, including hairspray or deodorant, are banned, as are large diaper bags. Bags must not exceed a capacity of three liters or dimensions of 20 x 15 x 10 centimeters. Security staff will check the size of bags and, if necessary, their contents at the Oktoberfest entrances.
For those planning to attend with children, it's important to note that strollers are allowed until 6 p.m., but larger luggage can be deposited at entrances P1, P5, P8, and P10 for a fee of five to ten euros. Parents should also be aware that on Saturdays and German Unity Day (October 3), strollers are not permitted on the Theresienwiese at all.
Bicycles, e-scooters, skateboards, and similar vehicles are not allowed inside the festival area. If you're arriving by bike, scooter, or skateboard, you must leave your vehicle outside the Oktoberfest grounds. Special rules apply to e-scooters: they may neither be parked nor ridden within the outer security ring.
Large animals, with the exception of the traditional brewery horses that pull beer wagons and guide or assistance dogs, are generally prohibited. Dogs, without a special permit, are not allowed on the Oktoberfest grounds.
Food can only be brought into the beer gardens at Oktoberfest. Weapons, including traditional costume knives like a 'Hirschfänger,' and any other objects that could be used as cutting, thrusting, or stabbing weapons are strictly forbidden.
Lastly, by 8 p.m., children under the age of six are not allowed into the beer tents, even when accompanied by their parents. Your bag will be marked with a 'security check wristband' that changes colour each day.
With these guidelines in mind, you're now ready to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Oktoberfest! Prost!
