A New Cabaret Series Comes to Life: "The Layaway" at the Philly Fringe Festival
Renovated Wanamaker Building to Accommodate Philly Fringe Festival this Autumn
Get ready for an exciting new addition to the 29th Philly Fringe Festival, as The Bearded Ladies Cabaret presents "The Layaway". This unique cabaret series will be held from September 13 to 28, 2025 within the historic Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia, specifically in Greek Hall.
Co-presented by FringeArts and Opera Philadelphia's Pipe Up series, "The Layaway" promises to be a vibrant and eclectic event, offering a diverse lineup of queer-centric cabaret and performance art. The Bearded Ladies Cabaret, known for their innovative and engaging performances, aim to create a cozy and welcoming space within the Wanamaker Building.
Performance Schedule
The performances will take place on both Saturdays and Sundays. On Saturdays, the shows will start at 9 PM, featuring a dynamic mix of queer art and cabaret. On Sundays, there will be family-friendly matinees at 3 PM, part of "The Kids Department". Kids attend for free, and adults participate on a pay-what-you-can basis.
Notable Features
The performances will be hosted by talented artists such as Jess Conda, Eric Jaffe, Jarbeaux (US aka Anthony Martinez-Briggs), and Sam Rise. "The Layaway" is promoted as a "speakeasy for hard times", offering a unique blend of art, music, and community that promises to recharge audiences.
Tickets for "The Layaway" can be purchased through PhillyFringe.org, by phone, or in person at the Fringe Festival Box Office. Prices range from $10 to $35 for general admission, with table seats available for $50.
It's important to note that "The Layaway" is not part of Opera Philadelphia's programming in the Wanamaker Building. Despite this, the collaboration between the Bearded Ladies Cabaret and Opera Philadelphia marks a significant step in reviving the arts scene in the downtown Wanamaker Building.
Previously, plans to revive Late Night Snacks with the Bearded Ladies' own stage, the Beardmobile, were thwarted due to the truck being stolen last April. However, the spirit of Late Night Snacks lives on in "The Layaway", offering a new and exciting experience for audiences.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of queer-centric cabaret and performance art. Get your tickets for "The Layaway" today and be a part of this groundbreaking event at the Philly Fringe Festival!
