Summertime Delivery to Santa: Cycling Postmen Reach Lapland for Early Christmas Mail
In an extraordinary act of goodwill and determination, three postal workers from Saarland, Germany, are cycling over 3,700 kilometres to Lapland, Finland, to deliver children's wishlists to Santa Claus at his official home in Rovaniemi.
The route of this charitable journey varies, often starting from the southern parts of Germany or neighbouring countries, and traversing hundreds of kilometres through the cold, remote northern terrain. The participants will face challenging natural conditions, including forests, lakes, and possibly snow or cool summer weather, given Lapland’s climate.
The ride is organised to support a charitable cause, with common themes including raising funds or awareness for children, families, or social causes connected to the Christmas spirit. Delivering wishlists physically to Santa Claus’ post office symbolises bringing hope and joy to children awaiting Christmas gifts.
The postal workers, Simone Nehring, Artur Hajduk, and Ralf Schüttler, have prepared for extreme weather and physical demands. They will be riding two yellow postal bicycles and one mountain bike, without electric motors, and a support vehicle will accompany them to transport clothing, tools, and spare parts.
The journey takes them through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and now also includes Norway, with the North Cape as their final destination after delivering the wishlists. The trio met while competing for the national postal cycling team.
The journey covers approximately 3,000 kilometres and starts at St. Nikolaus in Saarland. After delivering the wishlists, the postal workers plan to continue their journey to the North Cape, adding another 700 kilometres to their trip.
The Saarland Nikolaus, one of the postal workers, expressed his excitement about his summer task, "I hope that Santa answers my letter." They are collecting donations for the "Bunter Kreis Hagen" association during their journey, which supports families with seriously ill children.
Last winter, the volunteer team at the Nikolaus post office answered over 33,000 children's letters from around the world. The main goal of the journey is to deliver wishlists and see replies from the Santa Claus Village local post office.
The Santa Claus Village offers unique experiences like reindeer and husky rides that highlight Finnish Lapland’s cultural and natural heritage. The journey embodies effort, endurance, and festive goodwill, attracting media and community support.
For precise current details around this year’s event, charity partner, and route specifics, checking local Finnish postal service announcements or event organizers' updates would be necessary.
